Knee Sprain

Knee Sprain

This is an elongation and possible rupture of the collateral or cruciate ligaments of the knee due to a twisting movement. Depending on the degree of severity, the treatment will be functional, conservative (plaster or brace), or surgical.

Diffrent types of knee sprain

The highest risk sports are football, skiing, hockey, rugby, judo and gymnastics.

There are two types of ligament instability :

  • Acute knee instability is due to a recent ligamentous injury (acute sprains).
  • Chronic knee instability is due to a prior ligamentous injury which has not been treated properly.
