Patellofemoral syndrome

Patellofemoral syndrome

Patellofemoral syndrome is a condition commonly described as pain in the front of the knee and around the kneecap, known as the patella.

Common causes of the condition are overuse of the knee joint and trauma. Although the condition occurs more commonly in athletes, anyone can develop these symptoms.

The diagnosis can be made based on clinical examination and often confirmed by radiologic findings (magnetic resonance). The treatment consists of rest, physiotherapy, and adaptation of sports activity.
